Heard Rumors About Virat Kohli At No.4, AB De Villiers Gives His Opinion

Virat Kohli should bat at No. 4 during the Asia Cup and World Cup of 2023, according to former India coach Ravi Shastri, not No. 3. The opinion, however, was not well received by many pundits and enthusiasts, which sparked a discussion.

The idea was rejected by many former players, including Gautam Gambhir, but South African star AB de Villiers has endorsed it. The Proteas hero, who shared a dressing room with Kohli at Royal Challengers Bangalore, declared himself to be a “big supporter” of Kohli’s No. 4 batting position in one-day internationals.

“We’re still debating who India’s No. 4 batter will be. I’ve heard some rumors that Virat (Kohli) might fill that role. De Villiers declared on his YouTube channel, “AB de Villiers 360,” that he would be a strong supporter of that.

AB De Villiers Gives His Opinion On India’s Batting Order, concurred that Kohli might not leave the No. 3 batting spot just yet because he has been very successful for more than a decade, but he should be prepared to transition into a new role if the team needs him to.

Yuzvendra Chahal, a leg-spinner, did not make the India squad for the Asia Cup because Kuldeep Yadav, a wrist spinner, and Axar Patel, a spin all-arounder, were chosen over him by the selectors. When AB de Villiers learned that his former RCB teammate was not selected, he was disappointed.

It’s a little disappointing for me because Yuzi is always very helpful and having a leg-spinning option in your team is great. We are aware of his skill,” de Villiers said.

“Virat is ideal for No. 4, in my opinion. He can complete the innings and fill any position in the middle of the order. I’m not sure he would want to do that. We know he loves playing third base because that is where he has scored all of his runs, but at the end of the day, you have to put your hand up and take the initiative if the team needs you to do something or fill a certain role.
