The expulsion of one of each other’s diplomats and India’s suspension of issuing visas to citizens of Canada have increased the diplomatic rift Relations Between Canada And India over the killing of a Sikh separatist leader close to Vancouver.
Relations between the two nations(Relations Between Canada And India), who are close trading partners and allies of the United States, have deteriorated since Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated on Monday that authorities were actively looking into “credible allegations” that Indian government agents may have been involved in the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
Following a swift denial of Trudeau’s claims, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs charged that Canada was harboring “terrorists and extremists” who “continue to threaten India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
Nijjar, a 20-year resident of Canada who ran a plumbing company and promoted Sikh independence, was shot and killed on June 18 in front of a temple in Surrey, close to Vancouver. Nijjar and his supporters always refuted the allegations that he was a terrorist affiliated with a militant group that was outlawed in India in 2020.

The largest Sikh population outside of India is found in Canada(Relations Between Canada And India). 1.35 million Indians live in the country of North America, accounting for about 3% of its total population, according to Statistics Canada.
The visa application center for India in Canada, BLS International, announced on Thursday that it will stop providing visa services to Canadian citizens “until further notice” due to “operational reasons, with effect from 21 September 2023.”
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has also issued a warning to Indian citizens and students studying in Canada, advising them to “exercise utmost caution” in light of “growing anti-Indian activities, politically-condoned hate crimes, and criminal violence in Canada.”
