Samsung is Developing a Massive 440 Megapixel Camera Sensor

The South Korean tech giant is most likely working on four different camera sensors, according to tipster Revegnus on X (formerly Twitter) says Samsung is Developing a Massive 440 Megapixel Camera Sensor. Including the 50MP ISOCELL GN6 sensor with 1.6-micron pixels, the 200MP HP7 sensor with 0.7-micron pixels, the unnamed 320MP sensor, and the 440MP HU1 sensor.

Although the tipster stated that Samsung would not use the 50MP ISOCELL GN6 sensor, it is likely that Chinese manufacturers will. This could be Samsung’s first 1-inch camera, competing with Vivo’s flagship Vivo X90 Pro+ that uses Sony’s 1-inch IMX989 sensor, according to reports.

The 200MP HP7 sensor with 0.7-micron pixels was initially intended for the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, the tip claims. Due to the excessive cost of production, it was abandoned. It appears that this camera sensor has larger pixels than the 200MP HP2 camera found on the Galaxy S23 Ultra.

320MP sensor: The tipster mentioned that the unnamed 320MP sensor may be found in the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra without providing many additional details. This could be a very likely scenario given that the MediaTek Dimensity 9200 processor supports cameras with up to 320MP resolution.

The tipster only mentioned that the business is Samsung is Developing a Massive 440 Megapixel Camera Sensor; no other details about the sensor’s specifications were provided. The sensor may be used in other applications, such as automotive or industrial use cases, since its intended use for smartphones is unknown. However, it’s interesting to note that Samsung had stated in 2020 that it hoped to create a camera with a resolution comparable to the human eye, or between 500MP and 600MP. Given this, it seems likely that the 440MP sensor will be used.
